The Aspergillus terreus gla1 gene, coding for a glucoamylase, has been
cloned by heterologous hybridization. The gene is interrupted by four
introns and encodes a protein with an N-terminal catalytic domain and a
C-terminal starch-binding domain. The expression of the gene is induced by
starch and maltose and repressed by glucose.
