Tick (Ixodes ricinus) host cells were infected with rickettsiae transformed with a green fluorescent protein gene and stained with rhodamine-conjugated phalloidin to reveal interactions of rickettsiae with the host cell actin network. Rickettsiae associated with actin tail structures up to 10 μm in length. (See related article on page 2095.)
